Q. What is "Jounamagashi"?

Jounamagashi (上生菓子) is a very soft and delicate, seasonally varying namagashi, in various, often elaborate, shapes and colors, often reflecting seasonal plants. Some stores will have many dozens over the course of a year.

Q. What is "namagashi"?

Namagashi (生菓子) is a type of wagashi that is usually freshly made and more moist than other wagashi.

Q. Can my child join the handmade Wagashi Class by themselves?

Children can participate on their own, but a guardian/parent must be present. Young children's guardian must be seated nearby to support as needed.

Q. How is the Authentic Wagashi Class different than the other class?

In the Authentic Wagashi Class, a professional wagashi craftsman will teach you a variety of authentic and traditional wagashi techniques using professional tools. Whereas in the Handmade Wagashi Class, you will use tools that can typically be found in home kitchens. In the Experience Class, you can make jounamagashi designs typically seen in tea ceremony events.
